When students commence Year 7 at Diamond Valley College, we focus on supporting their smooth transition from primary to secondary school. Our aim is to prepare students for the next stage of their educational journey by developing strong organisational skills, encouraging an enthusiasm for learning and fostering a sense of belonging within the school community.
Students engage in a broad range of core subjects, giving them the opportunity to explore diverse learning areas and discover their interests. This foundation helps them build confidence and a sense of belonging as they begin their secondary school experience.
Welcome BBQ
To welcome our new families, we host the Year 7 Welcome BBQ. This event showcases our learning spaces and provides a valuable opportunity for students, families, and staff to connect as part of the Diamond Valley College community.
Year 7 Camp
Early in the year, students attend the Year 7 Camp, which provides an invaluable opportunity to build confidence, encourage teamwork, and foster independence. The camp also strengthens social skills and helps students create lasting friendships and memories.
Curriculum
In Year 7, students study a range of core subjects that run throughout the year, including English, Mathematics, Science, Language, Humanities and Physical Education. To provide a broad learning experience, students also take part in semester-based subjects such as Music, Digital Technology, Gold Diggers, Electronics, Textiles, and Art. This combination ensures students explore both academic and creative disciplines.
Personal Development Learning
In the Junior and Middle Subschools, all students participate in a Personal Development Learning subject. In Year 7, the PDL subject is Level Up.
At Year 7, we prepare students to be ready to learn. There is a focus on the transition from primary to secondary school. Our college values of Caring, Confident, Curious and Collaborative are integral in supporting the development of organisation skills, consistent expectations and developing a positive learning disposition for students to achieve their best. Students participate in a range of subjects allowing them to explore various learning opportunities.
