Our tailored programs are designed to help every student begin their secondary journey with confidence and a strong sense of belonging.
We recognise that transition is more than just the first day—it begins in Grade 6 and continues through Year 7. Our comprehensive program includes close collaboration with parents and primary schools to understand each student’s academic and social needs. Classes are thoughtfully structured, and our teachers are well-equipped with transition insights to support students from day one.

Supporting a Smooth Transition
To provide ongoing support, our Bigger Buddy Program pairs trained Year 10 students with our Year 7s, offering guidance, encouragement, and mentorship throughout their first year of secondary school. Bigger Buddies are carefully selected for their leadership skills and positive attitude, and they undergo training to help them support younger students effectively.
The program gives Year 7s a friendly, familiar face they can turn to with questions, whether it’s about finding their way around the campus, managing homework, or getting involved in school activities. Bigger Buddies work with each Homegroup throughout the year to run fun activities, helping our Year 7s feel connected and confident well beyond Orientation Day.
This ongoing connection ensures that every student has someone looking out for them, reinforcing our commitment to creating a safe, welcoming, and supportive learning environment at Diamond Valley College.
Orientation Day
Orientation Day at Diamond Valley College is designed to be fun, welcoming, and supportive—helping our incoming Year 7 students feel at ease as they begin their secondary school journey.
Students are guided throughout the day by their Bigger Buddies, a group of friendly and enthusiastic Year 10 leaders, alongside their Homegroup teacher. These buddies, along with their Homegroup teacher, play an important role in helping new students settle in, build confidence, and navigate their way around the campus.
The program includes a mix of engaging classroom taster sessions, interactive activities, and games that encourage teamwork and friendships. It’s also an opportunity for students to meet their other staff, explore our leafy grounds, and experience what makes DVC such a connected and supportive community.
At lunchtime, everyone comes together for a relaxed BBQ, providing a chance to share stories, make new friends, and enjoy a break in the middle of an exciting day.
CSS@DVC
We understand that some students arrive at DVC as the only student from their primary school. To make this transition easier, we have created CSS@DVC (Connecting Solo Starters at DVC).
This program ensures that students from smaller cohorts feel just as supported and welcomed as those arriving with friends. On CSS@DVC students are supported by Bigger Buddies and introduced to a carefully designed set of activities that build confidence and connections. The focus is on helping them quickly establish friendships, discover shared interests, and feel part of the wider Year 7 group from day one.

Year 7 Camp
Our Year 7 Camp fosters an environment for students to build confidence, encourage teamwork, and develop independence early in the year. The camp not only enhances their social skills but also creates lasting memories and friendships.
